Magic Faraway Tree - Enid Blyton
Book of the Month - February 2009
The Magic Faraway Tree is a charming tale about three siblings Joe, Beth and Frannie and their cousin Rick (previously named Dick) who venture to the Enchanted Woods and the Faraway Tree. A climb to the top of the tree takes you to mystical lands such as Topsy-Turvey Land, Land of Spells and Land of Do-As-You-Please.
However, things aren't all plain sailing, and we find our young heroes
consistantly in dangerous situations that look completely unescapable.
These frightening scenarios bring tension and mayhem to feed the
readers anticipation of what will happen next.
With the help of the other hugely descriptive characters in the story
like Moon-Face, Silky the Fairy and Saucepan Man to guide them through
the troubled waters and to safety. At one point in the story, the
children think that they have had enough of the Faraway Tree after a
very close-call, but not surprisingly, soon find that they can't stay
away from the lands that offer untold delights.
The Magic Faraway Tree is such a classic tale and a great introduction
for young readers. Readers will find that every page contains some
magic, spice or mystery that will fuel the imagination. Enid Blyton's
masterfully telling of this story really stays with you for
years and years after you have read it.
