Dinosaur Vs Bedtime
Author: Bob Shea
Not since Thomas the Tank Engine's "I think I can, I think I can!" has
a book come up with such a positive catchphrase. Your children will
love joining in with "Roar! I'm a dinosaur! Roar! Nothing can stop
me!". Particulalry the Roooaaaarrrr!
This is a cute book about a red dinosaur that can overcome everyday
obstacles, such as a bowl of spaghetti, a pile of leaves or a big
slide. Even talking to grown-ups is achievable after using
the Roar catchphrase. But our little red dinosaur does have a nemesis
and it's name is bedtime.
Your children will love this book with its simple illustrations. It's a
book that will quickly become a regular read and you get the added
bonus of hearing your little ones use their new Roar powers around the
house.

The Honest-to-Goodness Truth
Author: Patricia McKissack. Illustrator: Giselle Potter
This is a terrific little book about telling the truth. It will open up
wonderful discussions on when to use the whole truth and nothing but
the truth, and when the little white lie is acceptable. It concentrates
on the old adage: The truth (can) hurts.
Our main character Libby Louise gets caught by her mother in a
lie. After a severe punishment for the crime, Libby declares "From now
on, only the truth". As the story unfolds, this new decree causes much
heartache to Libby's friends as the truth gets told without fear nor
favour.
After feelings are crushed, it takes Libby's mother to once
again teach her young charge a lesson. Libby feels the sting of the
cold-hard truth before trying to work out when is the right time for
the truth and when it's not appropriate.
The discussion provoking story-line is accompanied with
beautiful illustrations that your children will enjoy viewing over and
over.

The Lemonade Wars
Author: Jacqueline Davies
A wonderful tale about siblings, emotions and a lemonade-stand war. Our
two main characters are Evan, a boy about to start fourth grade, and
his younger sister Jessie that is in the second grade. The two siblings
get along very well with the super-smart Jessie helping her older
brother with things like maths and Evan giving small bits of advice for
his younger sister about social situations.
But their closeness and helpfulness towards each other changes suddenly
after a letter arrives. Jessie, for being so very clever, will be
skipping the third grade and going straight to the fourth grade. Jessie
is ecstatic about this, but Evan is mortified, as now he will be not
only the dumb one at home, but also at school.
All this culminates in the two children competing to make the most
money from their separate lemonade stands. What was once a project that
both children worked on, Jessie, incensed about being snubbed by her
brother and closest friend rallies.
The book delves into life's topics like maths, emotions with siblings
and friends, business skills and pride. This book is superbly written
and is such a great read. Your children will love it!
