Where does Imagination fit into Children's Education?
By Brad ~ Children's Books
So if the imagination is such an important tool
of
learning and growing up, is there anything we can do to encourage our
children
to use their imagination? Yes, of course there is!
Toys and books are very useful at getting your
children to use their imagination. Usually toys that are very basic in
structure often make the child use their imagination more than overly
sophisticated
ones. This is where good old-fashioned wooden toys are typically at
their best
as they are simple in structure and are hard-wearing.
Books need to be at the appropriate level of your
child to have them using their imagination to the full. If the book is
too
basic or too complicated, the child won’t be able to fully imagine all
the
great things the author is trying to convey.
Another great thing for helping you children to build
their imaginations is to let them have time on their own. If you see
them
sitting quietly staring out into space, sometimes it’s best to leave
them alone
as they’re probably imagining some fantastic story. Day-dreaming occurs
when
there is peace and quiet and it’s so easy for us to achieve this
situation for
our children.
Some things that won’t help children’s imaginations
are TV, video games and films. I’m not saying that these are bad things
in
moderation, in fact I love all three, but the problem is that it won’t
be your
children’s imagination being used but that of the game designers or
directors
and writers having all the fun.
If you’d like to have a look at some great wooden toys
that seem to last forever, go to...
The place where I buy all my books very cheaply is…
So the question of where does the Imagination fit into children's education?
I think it would be easier to ask, where doesn't it?
