Your very own Ant Farm.

Toy of the Month - March 2009

It's the fascinating world of ants that your children can now watch and study with much interest.

Ants are amazing creatures. They are social creatures that form colonies. Ants are very hard-workers and are always working towards the benefit of the colony as a whole. This has enabled them to inhabit nearly every continent on Earth.

Designed by NASA for a 2003 space trip to study ants in outer space, the ant farm comes with a gel that supplies the ants with everything they need to survive. It's their home, food and water all combined in one special gel, which means you don't have to continually worry about giving them food and the ants escaping while you do it.

Another great bonus to the gel is that all the tunnels that the ants create are visible to you, as well as their interactions with each other. You and your children will be very surprised by the way they communicate with each other.

The Ant Farm will really spark an interest in science and social interaction for your child. And if your child already loves to watch documentaries about insects and animals, then they will love to have an ant farm.

Probably the only negative that we've found is that sometimes the ants don't survive. You will receive a coupon when you purchase the ant farm for the ants themselves, and from time to time they die in the post. It's for this reason, we give it 4.5 Stars. But of course, unless you live in Antarctia, you probably have ants that you can use. Moreover, let's not forget that your child will love to capture them.
